USING DIFFERENT KINDS OF HANDSAWS
Using Different Kinds of Handsaws

Cutting metal is definitely not limited to some tools. Nowadays many tools are available in the market to cut the metal.
Hacksaws are commonly used to cut metals. It has a frame holding a blade under tension. To hold the different length blades, these frames are usually adjustable. Blades of the hacksaw usually ranges from 250mm to 300mm and is positioned by angled pegs on both ends of the frame. The frame contains the wing nut and threaded adjuster as well, which are used to provide tension. Blade is usually assembled at right angle to its usual position but this is not the case with all the hacksaws.
It is usually used to cut the straight pipes, sections or bars and is not useful for large metal sheets. This is so because the frame of hacksaw does not allow it to cut the metal which is more than 100mm wide. Hacksaw needs 100mm to 125mm space above the work piece to saw the piece and once you have cut down to 100mm, frame will stop you to saw further. These are some limitation of the hacksaw frame.
The blades should be fixed in the frame in such a way that the teeth pointing away from you. Also it is better to cut the metal from rough side, to keep the surface of the metal in good shape. Once the cutting is done, you can smooth the edges with files.
It is best to fix the metal in a vice with the cutting line in front of you. You need to keep eye on that line while cutting the metal so that you will cut in a straight line. Make sure that you exert pressure on forward stroke only, never put any pressure while back stroke. Use long smooth forward stroke to cut the metal.
Junior hacksaw as the name suggest is smaller in size than the normal hacksaw. A 150mm long blade is usually fixed at set tension to the frame. But there are junior hacksaws with adjustable blades. The blades of junior hacksaw are normally having the property to kink and blunt quickly at the same time. So, they are useful for confined places and for complex work too.
Padsaw has a pad handle fastened with a clamp over one end of the blade. This pad help to grip the blade properly and also keep your hand safe from coarse teeth of the blade. It has a blade pointing towards you and therefore cut the metal on pull stroke. Like junior hacksaw, padsaw is also useful for confined places.
Sheetsaw is specially designed to cut large sheets of metal. Sheetsaw has a much thinner blade than the hacksaw and is usually mounted at the bottom edge. Sheetsaw is used to cut the sheets to any depth. However, it has its own traits but still it is of no comparison to hacksaw.
